A change in the deal linked to Tigon Studios

It appears that after some wrangling, Warner Bros. will be getting the rights to the recently released Midway title Wheelman after all. Initially, our sources insisted that Warner Bros. was not interested in the Wheelman franchise, but it would appear that the decision to pick up the Wheelman franchise could have more to do with Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios, who were involved in the development of Wheelman, seeking $200,000 for their participation in the design and development of the game.

The news has to strike a blow to Midway’s Newcastle studio, as they did the vast majority of the development of Wheelman. As we explained yesterday, the clock is still ticking for the Midway Newcastle studio to find a buyer to move forward or likely face closure shortly. Midway Newcastle was hoping to be the studio involved in the development of the possible sequel to Wheelman, but it now appears that Warner Bros. will acquire the IP for Wheelman, making the future of a sequel unknown at this time.

One other Midway franchise also seems to be in limbo, as it has been announced that the TNA Wrestling franchise will not be heading to Warner Bros. While the first release in the franchise showed potential, it would appear that it has not shown enough potential for Warner Bros. to want to acquire the rights to the franchise.
