Madden said to use scrambled likenesses

Retired NFL players are said to now be turning their attention to suing Electronic Arts for using what they are claiming are “scrambled likenesses of retired NFL players” that were used in Madden NFL without permission or compensation. Recently, they won a $28 million award from the National Football League Players Association.

According to what we hear, the retirees are due some $13,000 each from the other verdict and retirees are being asked to set aside $1,000 to be put in a legal fund to continue to pursue the collection of monies owed to the retired players.

Sources suggest that the retired players believe that they are due further monies from the deep pockets at Electronic Arts. Madden himself, as well as Electronic Arts, is said to be named in the new suit. Sources say that Madden claims to have been unaware of the deal between Electronic Arts and the NFLPA and had nothing to do with the decision to scrambled likenesses of retired NFL players.

It is expected that this suit will take some time to settle, but some suggest that the final settlement could result in the likenesses of retired NFL players to be included in future Madden releases at some point once everything is finally settled.
