World of Warcraft goes over 9 million

Excluding mainland China

Blizzard Entertainment's press release today claim that they surpassed 9 million World of Warcraft subscribers worldwide.

A lot of people, and if you take a look from Blizzard's point of view, a lot of money, just do the simple math. One important notice is that this number doesn't include the Burning Crusade expansion in mainland China, as it's not out there yet. So according to that, I think that we will soon have a press release that WoW has broken the  10 million mark.

"We’re thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically,” said Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’ve worked hard to provide a compelling experience for our players, and we plan to continue updating the game with exciting new content for them to enjoy for many years to come.”

I can't think of anyone who wouldn't be thrilled with 9 million subscribers.
