We've learned that close to 3GHz Deneb 45nm AMD quad-core might show its face in October / November time with a strong chance for 3GHz CPU in very late 2008.
Deneb will have 6MB L3 and it would be followed by Propus, the 45nm cacheless version of the same CPU, but this happens in early 2009.
Deneb will end up slower than quad-core / eight thread Nehalem, there is almost no doubt about it, but AMD would at least have something better to fight Intel. Propus might be an interesting one, as its native cacheless CPU and it will be very small compared to any Nehalem; and it might end up cheap to produce.
Unfortunately, when it comes to AMD's CPU business it is all based on best case scenarios, and we can just hope that AMD won’t slip and ruin its own agenda.
