With Nehalem priced as low as $284, AMD will have a tough time selling its upcoming Deneb chips.
If all goes well by November and maybe even in October AMD will have some of its native quad-core 45nm chips out and at the same time if not even earlier Intel will start shipping Nehalem.
Deneb ends up a bit faster than Yorkfield quad core but it simply cannot compete with Nehalem, at least not clock to clock.
We heard that 3GHz Deneb comes a month or two after the launch and we all know that Nehalem launches at 3.2GHz, a speed that will win against 3.2GHz Deneb.
Deneb in 2007 could reach 3.0GHz but not more than that and this is the speed that won’t be enough for the dominance. AMD’s strategy will once again be based on lower pricing.
