Vivendi to offer MP3s without protection
Let's see how honest you are
The Universal Music Group division of Vivendi has announced that it will offer the sale of thousands of albums and tracks that it has license rights to in MP3-format without any digital rights management copy protection software.
Vivendi indicated that this offering is a “trial” that will be available only from August to January 2008. Vivendi will offer the MP3-format sale through various vendors, including amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Google. Absent from the vendor availability list is Apple’s online music store, iTunes.
