AMD releases new A10-7890K flagship APU

by on13 January 2016

New FM2+ and AM3+ moterboards incoming as well

During CES 2016 show, AMD has announced the new flagship Kaveri-based APU, the AMD A10-7890K, as well as an announced that new FM2+ and AM3+ motherboards with USB 3.1 and M.2 should be incoming.

Based on the Kaveri design, the new AMD A10-7890K APU features two Steamroller modules, with four x86 cores, 2x2MB of L2 cache, dual-channel DDR3-2133 memory controller and Radeon R7 GPU with 512 Stream Processors. It still has the same 95W TDP but the precise GPU clocks are unknown. While these specifications are the same as with the earlier available flagship A10-7870K APU, the higher 4.0GHz base and 4.3MHz maximum Turbo clock, makes the new A10-7890K the fastest FM2+ APU on the market.

During CES 2016 show, AMD demonstrated the A10-7890K APU with its new Wraith CPU reference cooler but it is still not clear if AMD will actually ship it with that same cooler in retail.

In addition to the new flagship Kaveri-based A10-7890K APU, AMD also announced that it has pushed its partnering motherboard manufactures to make new socket AM3+ and FM2+ motherboards that will include both USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C ports as well as M.2 SATA slots.

Hopefully we will see both the new A10-7890K and the new motherboards on retail/e-tail shelves soon.
