Starting at $74
AMD has officially launched five new desktop CPUs aimed at
mainstream consumers. We already wrote about most of them, so let's
recap.
At 3.2GHz the new Phenom II X2 555 is AMD's fastest dual-core to date.
It costs just $99, which sounds like a reasonable price, and the TDP is
80W. The Athlon II X2 255 runs at 3.1GHz and has a 65W TDP. It ends up
priced at $74.
AMD also introduced a new tri-core, the 3.0GHz Athlon X3 440. It has a
95W TDP and it costs just $84. In case you can't live without four
cores, there's the $119 Athlon II X4 635. It's clocked at 2.9GHz and
has a 95W TDP.
Tree huggers will be happy to know that AMD is thinking about them as
well. The Phenom II X4 910e features a polar bear friendly 65W TDP and
at 2.6GHz it should skimp out on performance either. It costs $169.
In addition to these babies, AMD will soon introduce the Phenom II X4
975 Black Edition, clocked at 3.6GHz and the 2.8GHz Phenom II X4 820.
The company will also launch new 800 series chipsets in a few months,
but we're still not sure when.
