Core 2 and
Core 2 Quad
Intel's LGA 775
platform is going to have quite a long life cycle. Intel plans to keep it alive
for at least two more years and it should be possible to buy LGA775 chipset and
motherboard even in 2011.
Intel's P45, G45, G43 and G41 chipsets are being refreshed and they should be
good for mainstream and value in the next two years. The key thing in the refresh
is DDR3 support, which should keep the platform alive and kicking.
In 2011
when it comes to desktop CPUs Intel should have at least three major sockets,
LGA775, LGA1366 and LGA1156, and it's possible that there might be some more. If
you count the Atom socket, you can already claim it has four. It is also highly likely that Intel might be selling some LGA775 chips and boards even beyond 2011.
