More AMD Ryzen 5 2500U benchmarks spotted

Notebookcheck pits it against Core i5-8250U

Although there were a handful of Ryzen Mobile notebooks announced, the HP Envy x350 15 was one of the first to ship and while we saw a couple of early benchmarks, the latest preview from Notebookcheck.net pits it against Intel's Kaby Lake Refresh Core i5-8250U CPU.

While this is just a preview and it does not include a full set of benchmarks that we usually see from Notebookcheck.net, it does provide some new details and shows the Ryzen 5 2500U against some similar APUs and CPUs with dedicated GPUs, like the Intel Core i7-7500U with Geforce 940MX and the Core i5-8250U with Geforce MX150.

In Cinebench R15, Cinebench R11.5, and the Cinebench R10, the HP Envy x360 15 with Ryzen 5 2500U APU does not score that well in single-core benchmarks, which does not come as a big surprise. In multi-core benchmarks, it certainly outperforms some dual-core Kaby Lake CPUs and even gives both the Core i5-8250U and the Core i7-8550U a run for their money.

The 3DMark 11 tests are a completely different story as it not only outperforms any Intel-based IGP, which is not a hard thing to do, but also performs close to the Geforce 940MX and Geforce MX150 (GT 1030) - a decent competition. Bear in mind that these notebooks with "dedicated" GPUs are usually much pricier than an HP Envy x360 15 with Ryzen 5 2500U APU.

Aside from those performance tests, Notebookcheck.net also did some power consumption tests, which are quite impressive as the HP Envy x360 15 with Ryzen 5 2500U APU managed to be less demanding than most comparable notebooks, including the HP Spectre x360 15 with both dedicated GPU and Intel's IGP. Not only does it use less power, which translates to much better battery life, but also provides much better CPU and GPU performance.

Notebookcheck.net promised a full review soon and it will be quite interesting to see more details.
