Tegra 2 tablet with features to spare
ICD has rolled out the Gemini, a feature packed tablet based
around Nvidia's Tegra 2 SoC that could make the iPad's life a bit
harder.
Thanks to the Tegra 2 chip clocked at 1GHz, Gemini can proudly display
HD content on its 1,366x768 11.2-inch screen, but that's not all. It
features 3G and it even allows users to make phone calls. The
contraption also packs GPS, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, FM radio,
an SD card reader and MicroUSB connectivity.
Unlike Apple's blind iPad, the Gemini features two cameras, a 2MP fixed
focus unit facing front and an autofocus 5MP camera on the back. Also,
unlike the iPad, it can cope with Flash and it has a user-replaceable
battery. As a final show of defiance and disrespect for Apple, ICD even
went to the trouble of installing a magnetometer, or compass, which is
an utterly useless feature unless you're Columbus or a fanatical iPhone
3GS user, in which case you've already got an iPad.
There are some downsides as well. The Gemini measures 300 x 191 x
15.6mm, so it's somewhat larger than the iPad. In addition, it's
nowhere near as good looking as the iPad.
