Globalfoundries has officially confirmed it has inked a deal with STMicroelectronics to produce 40nm low power bulk silicone products.
The chips will be used in wireless, handheld and consumer products, and
Globalfoundries says it will tape out the first samples in 2010.
Globalfoundries CEO Doug Grouse says his team is looking forward to
harnessing the company's full capabilities for ST in order to provide
best-in-class service.
Globalfoundries Dresden facility, now renamed Fab 1, will produce the
40nm parts for STMicro, at least until Fab 2 goes online in 2012.
