US dims Chinese lights

by on27 September 2018

Strike a light!

An all out trade war between the USA and China has claimed more victims, with LED lighting being the latest casualty.

According to Taiwanese wire Digitimes, the USA will impose 25 percent tariffs on LED units from the first of January next year.

A list shows 30 LED related items in the latest US hit list and while the hike is not likely to affect volume products like light bulbs, it will hit customised products which are already expensive.

Meanwhile, Chinese manufacturers have received a blizzard of orders from US vendors who want to beat the deadline date.

But every cloud has a silver lining, the wire reported. Currently prices of Taiwanese LEDs are 10 to 15 percent higher than Chinese units, prompting US vendors to explore this option.
