Doom for the Wii
Games console maker Nintendo is starting to lose ground
with its Wii console.
The outfit reported an 18 per cent drop in full-year net
profits and forecast a continued decline in sales of its Wii consoles and games
as rivals Sony and Microsoft claw back market share. Wii hardware sales are expected to fall from 20.5m to 18m
in the year to March 2011.
Punters have basically lost interest in the console and
its innovative motion controller. It was fairly old technology when it came
out, but its motion controller and price made it very popular. Now it is getting snot kicked out of it as Sony and the
Microsoft have reduced their prices and got motion controllers arriving.
There is now speculation about when Nintendo might launch
a successor to the Wii. We suspect that following Nintendo's traditional naming
conventions it will be called the poo and will be brown.
