Signs are that the fledgling all-in-one PC market might not do as well as analysts hoped are being seen in Taiwan. Sales of all-in-one PCs in the Taiwan market have reached only slightly above 1,000 units a month.
Part of the problem appears to be the pricing. Customers are still looking for something a bit cheaper to tie them over during the recession. The average price of an 18.5-inch all-in-one PC is currently around US$462. Punters in Taiwan can buy a traditional desktop with significantly better specifications for the price of a 20-inch model. Since they want better performance they are ignoring the lure of the all-in-one idea.
Apparently there are no moves to drop the price because retailers' margins would fall too much for them to be interested in promoting them.
