The USMC has banned social networking sites Facebook and MySpace, and micro-blogging service Twitter from its networks.
In an order issued monday, the powers that be claim that these sites
are a proven haven for "malicious actors and content" and are high risk
due to information exposure and user generated content. The nature of
social networking, it is claimed, creates a larger attack and
exploitation window and exposes information to the enemy.
The ban is not permanent, it will last a year, but there's always a
chance it will simply be extended once the year is up.Many in the
Pentagon see social networks as a potential security threat, as they
are often used to spread worms, trojans and various scams.
