Fujitsu Microelectronics
has struck a deal with TSMC to use its production facilities for 40nm
chip production, and it will also start a joint effort with the
Taiwanese chipmaker to develop the 28nm process, and future production
processes.
“From
the aspect of its advanced process technologies and large-scale
production capacity, TSMC is the most attractive semiconductor foundry
partner", said Haruki Okada, president of Fujitsu Microelectronics.
The
company says it is planning to sell its hard drive business to Toshiba
for 30 billion yen, and the deal is expected to be finalized by July.
