You get what you paid for
Twitter's
bird logo was built by a designer who was only paid $6 for his work and didn't
even get the glory of his name attributed to it.
The logo was designed under
a crowdsourcing contract by Simon Oxley, a Japan-based Brit who stuck the logo
on iStockphoto. Such contracts are considered pretty bad for artists because
they drive down the amount of cash a designer can ask.
An iStockphoto
spokeswoman told wired.com that Twitter paid between $10 and $15 for Oxley's
bird design. Oxley was tracked down by wired and he does not appear to
bitter about his experiences. He said this sort of deal keeps designers in work
and being creative.
True they might not be able to eat, but that is just a
small problem for artists apparently.
