$99 from April 5
Leaked documents which have
tipped up on the world wide wibble indicate that Sony is about to drop the
price of its PS2 for $99 from April 5.
The price drop coincides with the April
DSi launch. Currently a PS2 will set you back $130 and so the $30 price drop
represents nearly a 25 per cent drop. Photos which appear on the web
depict marketing material with the new price on them. In fact some strokers
of beards and people in the know believe that the drop in the PS2 price
could foreshadow a PS3 price cut later in the fiscal year ending March
2010.
However it could also indicate that Sony is planning to pull the plug
on the aging console which has been with us for nearly eight years. Well
not with me of course, I have a life. Unit sales of the PS2 have been
flat and it is thought that a price cut could be just the ticket to clear
out Sony's inventory prior to a wind down of production.
