Europeans like them small
According to IDC researchers, Europeans have taken quite a liking to
netbooks, and sales of these small, cheap and cute machines have
exceeded even the most optimistic forecasts.
Although they did grab 30 percent of total consumer portable sales, in
the business market segment the share drops to 20 percent. Total sales
of netbooks in EMEA surpassed 7 million in 2008, but 3.6 million were
sold in the last quarter alone, indicating sharp growth towards the end
of the year.
Consumers find low prices of most nebtook models appealing, and telcos
are also making attractive deals with netbook vendors, offering
netbooks to their customers under affordable wireless plans.
IDC expects double digit growth in the netbook market throughout 2009.
