Hole on the server
A hacker
used a hole in Wired's security to post an authentic looking story saying that
Steve Jobs had a heart attack.
The story was widely circulated across the
world wide wibble and Wired has had to print a disclaimer. Someone created a
legitimate-looking Web page using Wired's public upload image viewer, which
generates a page containing an image under a Wired logo banner, Wired said.
This particular hole has been patched to prevent anyone else doing it again. Most people wised up to the fakeness of the posting. It had misspellings
and grammatical problems and implied that Steve Jobs had a heart. If Jobs'
ticker did go on the blink it would be a surprise for most people in the
industry who thought it was his pancreas which was about to pack in.
Jobs,
who had surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004, announced this month that he will
take a medical leave of absence to treat a hormone imbalance.
