A Taiwanese e-tailer is listing the Eee PC 1000 (40G+Linux ) for €418. This is a 10-inch model, powered by Intel's overhyped and rarely available Atom CPU.
It packs 40GB of storage. Asus just says it's a 40GB SSD, but as in previous 12G and 20G models it's probably an 8GB SSD with an aditional 32GB of slow, flash storage.
The new Eee comes with b/g/n wireless, Bluetooth and a powerful 6-cell battery, which, according to Asus should provide you with up to 8 hours of autonomy. Thanks to the new battery, it also weighs 1.33kg, significantly more than previous Eee incarnations.
The price in the States is $699, or €449, and we have to say that this doesn't sound like a great deal. At these prices you are just a stone's throw away from a full blooded 12.1-inch machines.
There are a couple more Eee PC 1000 SKUs. The Eee PC 1000H ships with an 80GB hard drive and ends up a bit cheaper than the 40GB SSD version, and there's also the 1000 HD which sticks to the good old Celeron CPU.
