We find AMD's lack of faith in Radeon Pro SSG disturbing

Shortly after posting the previous story about the Radeon Pro SSG not showing up until Q4, the real reason was uncovered.

Radeon Pro SSG still has a long way to go

Today at Siggraph on the show floor we were told - although not able to physically see the card - that the post production demo that was being shown was utilizing the upcoming Radeon Pro SSG.

Together with custom RX Vega 64 cards

While AMD and most of its AIB partners have announced the standard Radeon RX Vega 64 graphics cards, which should hopefully become available on August 14th, it appears that the US $399 priced Radeon RX Vega 56 is coming in September.

Attractive Ryzen powered laptops

AMD hasn’t been the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to laptops for a long time but it looks like this is about to change very soon. Lisa Su, AMD's charismatic CEO, confirmed that Mobile Ryzen will be shipping for the holiday season. You can expect to see some announcements rather soon.

During its Capsaicin event at the Siggraph 2017 show, AMD brought a well-known overclocker Alva Jonathan, who managed to push the new Threadripper 1950X up to almost 5.2GHz on LN2. 

Liked AMD's version so much it thought it would invent it too

AMD attracted a bit of attention when it showed off it external GPU system a while back – so much good press it appeared that Nvidia thought "we should have something like that".

But most GPUs are sold to miners

Lisa Su was asked at Q2'17 investors conference call about the mining market and she was brave enough to say that the company didn’t plan its financials on the mining market boom. This sales tsunami did give AMD a great quarter,  but at the expense that plucky gamers could not buy any cards.

Vega GPU for mITX builds 

In addition to a fleet of RX Vega graphics cards and the Ryzen Threadripper CPUs, AMD has also briefly unveiled the mini-ITX RX Vega Nano graphics card at its Capsaicin event at the Siggraph 2017 show.
