We are seeing a surge in reports of dead Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs, and it is happening often enough to appear more than coincidental.
In the past 30 days, there have been at least four cases of dead Ryzen 5 9600X processors, specifically on ASRock 600- or 800-series motherboards, with other vendors also catching stray mentions.
Approximately four to five users have reported a dead Ryzen 9600X on ASRock 600- or 800-series boards in recent days, and a couple of other posts appear to describe the same failure without explicitly stating it.
Most of the owners say their PCs will not even post, including threads titled “PC won’t post” and “ASRock B850 Pro-A No POST issues.”
In the reports, systems were working fine until DRAM or CPU debug LEDs stayed lit, and no amount of basic troubleshooting brought them back.
Some users have already gone straight to RMA after confirming the CPU is dead in their systems.
User u/etrain1804 reported that an ASRock B850M Pro RS setup ran fine for eight months, then the CPU failed and was replaced.
User u/Shelcreature reported killing a Ryzen 9600X twice: the first death occurred in October 2025, and the replacement also failed roughly three months later.
They said the second chip died while using BIOS v3.50, released in September 2025, which is the kind of detail that makes other owners start reading changelogs like horror novels.
User u/SpecificSun9142 said their Ryzen 9600X died after roughly six months on an ASRock B850M Pro RS WiFi, and u/GamerGoblin also reported two dead CPUs.
It is a high number of failures for one part in a month, and it raises the question of whether something is off in the board setup, firmware, or power behaviour.
The reports note this is not limited to one chip line, with Ryzen 9600X, Ryzen 9700X, Ryzen 9950X, and some Ryzen 7000 parts all mentioned in similar cooked-CPU chatter.
