Preview: Looks promising

Sapphire's watercooled Atomic HD 3870 X2 has finally arrived and it looks good to us. We didn't have much time to test it, but it looks promising at first glance.

The Atomic waterblock is slim and looks like a single slot solution, but in reality it is a 1.5 slot card, as it will get close to the card on the side. The waterblock cools a duo of RV670 GPUs and the memory at the same time. It also covers and cools power components, too. The PCB remained the reference one, and the only difference on Sapphire HD 38780 X2 Atomic is a new water cooling system.

Sapphire made its own cooling system that comes together with the card, and it is all meant for easy installation. A hidden reservoir with a pump is inside the longer side of the cooling system. The reservoir and the cooler have to be placed above your card and it looks that with some smaller cases you might have some problems with finding the right place.

The radiator's fan is mastered by thermal sensors directly from the Atomic card. Each temperature change on the GPU will have some effect on its rotations of the fan. Ultra high performance should be no problem, but we will wait for Crossfire X driver to see some ultra performance with two R680 cards.
