Preview - article 1000: First one over 12,000 3D marks

We got two 8800 Ultra at the same day. That is just too much and this time the card is overclocked. The expensive beast is out in the wild , and you will need a lot of money if you want to put it in your case.

EVGA offers four editions of the Geforce 8800 Ultra card. There is no doubt that the Black Pearl is the most interesting as it's watercooled, but it is the most expensive pearl among the Ultra's.

The core of this card comes clocked at 655 MHz and the memory at 2250 MHz. This is very impressive, but for those that don't want a watercooled version, EVGA offers the SuperClocked that works at the same clocks, and it's a little bit cheaper.

Soon you will find out more about the 8800 Ultra Superclocked version, because this is the one we got in our lab. There are two more versions of the Ultra that proudly carry the EVGA logo, the 8800 Ultra KO and the 8800 Ultra at reference speeds, 612 MHz for the core and 1080 MHz for memory.

The memory on the EVGA 8800 Ultra KO version works at 1125 MHz just like the one on Superclocked and Black Pearl cards. The Core is a bit slower and works at 636 MHz.

Today we tested the EVGA Geforce 8800 Ultra Superclocked card in its original tiny box and it looks just like any other Ultra's with reference cooling. The surprising part is that all these cards are getting prepacked in new boxes, and now with a passive heatsink on the back of the card. That same heatsink can be found on ACS³ edition and helps to cool down the GPU more efficiently.

This is the first card that produced over the 12,000 points in 3Dmark06. There will be more soon, be sure to check it out and the scores are below.
