Core i7-980X cousins

has officially launched its six-core workstation and server processors and Xeon 5600 generation is made on the same 32nm process as the Core i7-980X and will naturally offer more juice at same power.

Performance boost of the new generation is said to range from 10 to as much as 60 percent in some more intensive tasks, keeping the consumption at levels identical to its predecessors.

All the CPUs feature 12MB of L3 cache and the slowest offering, Xeon L5640 runs at 2.26GHz. Next in line is X5650 which runs at 2.66GHz, followed by the X5660 at 2.80GHz, X5670 at 2.94GHz, X5667 at 3.06GHz and the fastest one, the X5677 at 3.46GHz.

Xeon 5600 CPUs come with all the bells and whistles on the field of security, listing features such as Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (AES-NI), Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) and more.
