Samsung has unveiled the new PM9C1a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD based on its own 5nm controller and seventh-generation V-NAND.

Bringing high-performance and promising to raise everyday computing and gaming to a new level, the Samsung PM9C1a SSD features a 1.6x faster sequential read speed and a 1.8x faster sequential write compared to its predecessor, the PM9B1. In terms of actual numbers, the PM91Ca peaks at 6,000MB/s for read and 5,600MB/s for write. Random performance peaks at 900K IOPs for read and 1,000K IOPS for write.

In addition to higher performance, the Samsung PM9C1 also offers up to 70 percent higher power efficiency, with up to 10 percent higher power efficiency in laptop standby mode.

The rest of the features include Device Identifier Composition Engine (DICE) security standard created by the Trusted Computing Group (TCG).

"Our new PM9C1a SSD will deliver a robust combination of superior performance, greater power efficiency and increased security, which are the qualities that matter most to PC users," said Yong Ho Song, Executive Vice President of Memory Solution Product & Development at Samsung Electronics. "We are committed to creating storage that satisfies the diverse and changing market requirements as we continue to advance innovation in the PC SSD space."

The Samsung PM9C1a SSD will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities, and come in M.2 form factor (22x30, 22x42, and 22x80mm). Unfortunately, Samsung did not announce the price so hopefully we'll see it on retail/e-tail shelves soon.
