Asus shows fanless Chromebox with Intel Comet Lake

by on12 January 2021

Passively cooled

Asus has unveiled a rather neat passively-cooled Chromebox mini PC which will be based on Intel's 10th generation Comet Lake CPUs.

Spotted by Fanlesstech.com, the Asus Fanless Chromebox, as the company decided to name it, is running on Google's Chrome OS and will come with three CPU options, Intel Celeron 5205U, Core i3-10110U, or the Core i7-10510U. The rest of the specifications are not bad either, as you get either 4GB or 8GB of DDR4 memory in one or two SO-DIMM slots, and either 32GB/64GB of eMMC or 128GB of M.2 SATA SSD storage.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0 (Dual band), as well as a couple of USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 Type-C and Type-A ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet port, and more.

The new mini PC from Asus measures at 207 x 148 x 32mm, weighs 1.2kg, and comes with new "lockable" VESA mount that should fit well on any VESA mount capable monitor.

What makes it quite interesting is the fact that this is a completely passively-cooled mini PC, especially since a 4-core/8-thread Core i7-10510U is an option. Of course, this is only a 25W TDP CPU, but still, it is nice to see such implementation from Asus.

Unfortunately, there is no word on the price or the availability date for the new Asus Fanless Chromebox.
