As expected and announced earlier, AMD has officially added two new 2nd-generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs to its lineup, including the 24-core/48-thread Threadripper 2970WX and the 12-core/24-thread Threadripper 2920X.

The two new Ryzen Threadripper SKUs will be joining the already available 32-core/64-thread Threadripper 2990WX and the 16-core/2950X, which were launched back in August.

Also aimed at prosumers, the newest addition to the Threadripper WX-series, the Threadripper 2970WX, will pack 24-cores and 48-threads, work at 3.0GHz base and 4.2GHz Boost clocks, have 76MB of cache and the same 250W TDP.

Just like the flagship Threadripper 2990WX, the new 2970WX will also support the Dynamic Local Mode (DLM) software, which should optimize application performance by giving preferential time on cores with local memory to the most demanding threads.

The Dynamic Local Mode (DLM) is automatically configured via AMD Ryzen Master software on these two SKUs, and it measures CPU time of active threads, ranks active threads from most to least demanding, automatically migrates the most demanding threads to dies with local memory access, and accelerates lightly-threaded and latency sensitive apps without impact to heavy multi-threaded tasks. According to AMD, this should result in an average of 15 percent performance boost in select applications, as well as certain games.

In addition to the WX-series Threadripper 2970WX, AMD also launched the least expensive 2nd generation Threadripper, the 12-core/24-thread Threadripper 2920X. It works at 3.5GHz base and 4.3GHz Boost clocks, has 38MB of cache and a 180W TDP.

“The dramatic transformation in the HEDT and overall PC market is driven by AMD leadership and innovation, and the AMD Ryzen Threadripper family is central to this global excitement,” said Saeid Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager, Client Compute, AMD. “We are expanding this excitement while also ensuring the HEDT market remains accessible to a broader range of creators and gamers with two new Threadripper processors that start at $649*.”

Both the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and the 2920X will be available as of today from all global retailers as well as in pre-built systems from various partners, including Alienware, with its Area-51 Threadripper Edition. The Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX has a suggested retail price of $1,299 while the Threadripper 2920X comes with $649 SEP.
