Huawei's Kirin 950 faster than Exynos 7420

First mobile A72 to launch tomorrow

There is a big chance that Huawei is going to officially launch Kirin 950 tomorrow and the first Geekbench benchmarks have already leaked.

The Kirin 950 is an octa-core processor with four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.4Ghz and four A53 cores. The leaked benchmark score shows a 1.8GHz clocked processor (probably in power saving mode) and despite lower clock the new SoC earned 1710 points in Single-Core score and 6245 in Multi-core score. The scores were achieved with Geekbench 3.3.2. Apparently the test device had 4GB of RAM.

This is a step forward as you can expect 1489 points if you have the Exynos 7420 14nm octa-core that powers the Galaxy S6 phone. The Multi-score on this chip stops at 4989 points which is short of what Kirin 950 can offer.

Kiringeek

It comes as no big surprise as the Kirin 950 has a higher clock core .The Cortex A72 is more efficient than the Cortex A57 which is a core that powers the Exynos 7420.

Gsmarena believes that the Exynos' successor is the Samsung Exynos M1 Mongoose which runs at  2.3GHz and scores 2,294 in Single-Core and 6,908 in Multi-core Geekbench testing. We expect to see Mongoose with its teeth in the back of the neck of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone but there should also be a Snapdragon 820 variant of the Galaxy S7 too.

This is just one benchmark and it doesn’t tell the whole story, but we think that the Snapdragon 820 has a fighting chance against Kirin 950 or Mongoose (possibly known as Exynos 8890) it looks like the custom Krait 450 core might be more efficient than ARM based Cortex A72.
