Socket AM3 continues to Q2 2013+

Athlon II, Phenom II and Sempron live

Socket AM3+ in the AMD world continues to be reserved for newly launched FX 8350, 8320, 8120 as well as FX 6300 and 6100 and quad-core FX 4300, 4130 and 4100 parts. This won’t change for the better part of of 2013.

AMD might refresh some of these processors through 2013 but this won’t happen before some point of Q1 2013 or later. We found it interesting that in this quarter, Q4 2012 AMD still wants to carry Sempron, Athlon II and Phenom II parts. This won’t change either, at least until the end of Q2 2013 if not later.

AMD is currently selling Phenom II X4 965, Athlon II X4 quad-cores, Athlon II X2 270 dual-core, dual-core Sempron 190 and even a single core, Sargas based 45nm Sempron 150. There is still a market for these inexpensive parts.

These CPUs will continue their presence on the market in Q1 2013 and the only change we spotted in Q2 2013 plans was that Phenom II X4 will go into well deserved retirement.

The Sempron, as well as Athlon II X2 will primarily be targeted to emerging markets and global system integrators, but we are sure that if someone is anxious enough, it should not be impossible to get one in the rest of the world through 2013.
