VIA sues Apple for patent infringement

by on23 September 2011

Everyone is doing it…
Plucky Taiwanese chipmaker VIA Technologies is suing Apple for patent infringement, alleging that the fruity toymaker nicked some of its ideas and applied them in iPad 2 and iPhone 4 products.

The suit centers on two patents dealing with processor load sharing methods and instruction sets for conversion of integer and floating point data. VIA’s subsidiaries CenTaur Technology and IP First LLC are also on board the suit.

VIA alleges that Apple’s infringement was willful, which could result in high damage claims. In the meantime VIA is seeking to ban the import of iPads, iPhone 4, iPod touch and Apple TV products into the United States.
