30% to 70% of work is done in Hyderabad and Bangalore

Depending
on the model, between 30% and 70% of every AMD chip is designed in India. AMD currently operates two major R&D centers located in Hyderabad and Bangalore, and employs more than 800 engineers at these sites.

The managing director of AMD India, Dasaradha Gude, says the percentage of development work conducted at the sites ranges from 30% to 70%, and this number includes high-end parts such as Barcelona, Shanghai and Istanbul.

Gude claims Indian R&D was behind more than 70% percent of development work on the Shanghai core. Furthermore, he expects some chips in the future will be designed entirely by AMD India. Work on these products has already started, but Gude said he could not disclose any more information on them.

No aspect of design and R&D is outsourced, and AMD designes all of its chips in-house, claims Gude.
