Little Falls 2 motherboard sighted

During an Intel event in Japan, Ascii.jp spotted what is meant to be the Little Falls 2 motherboard, which is home to a dual-Core Atom N330 processor, although Intel wouldn't go on record to say which CPU was hiding under the large heatsink.

If you compare the pictures of the motherboard to the current Little Falls platform, it's quite clear that some changes have been done. Although the general board layout appears to be the same at first, once you start taking a closer look you'll notice that both the CPU and chipset heatsinks have been changed.

The CPU has a much larger heatsink with different fins, while the chipset actually has a smaller heatsink, although it's still actively cooled. But the one thing that might be more telling of a dual core CPU upgrade than either of those changes is the addition of extra capacitors on the board and what appears to be a change of some of the power regulation circuits.

No announcement was made with regard to this board, but it does at least hint at Intel being close to ramping up production of the dual-core version of the Atom. Hopefully, it'll perform better than the single-core version without a massive price hike.

You can find the pictures of the motherboard here
