Same, but different

We've gotten our hands on a picture of Asus' upcoming Striker II NSE nForce 790i motherboard, which is a lower-end version of the Striker II Extreme that is using the 790i Ultra chipset.

The only difference that we're aware of right now is that the 790i Ultra chipset allows for higher memory speeds compared to the non-Ultra version and the information we've seen confirms this with regard to the Striker II series. The NSE version will aparently stop at DDR3 1,600MHz, while the Extreme version will go all the way up to 2,000MHz and unlike Intel's X48 chipset, all four memory slots can be populated when the boards are overclocked.

The picture below looks odd, but if you take a close look, you'll realize that Asus has managed to put the picture of the Striker II NSE on top of another board, which makes the rear and right edge of the board look strange. It also looks like the rear I/O is different compared to the Extreme version, but it's not.

Both boards will come with a Supreme FX II audio riser card and Asus's LCD poster. The rear ports consist of a PS/2 for a keyboard, six USB 2.0 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, optical and coaxial S/PDIF out, FireWire and a pair of eSATA ports, as well as a clear CMOS button.

The expected retail price should end up somewhere between €290 and €320 for the NSE version of the Striker II, which seems quite steep.
