780i released next week

Nvidia is launching a 3-Way SLI for 680i motherboards today and plans to sell a 780i version next week.

According to Hardocp, Nvidia has been keeping the release quiet because it is not sure that people will be that interested in the three-way SLI. If you do the math, three 8800 Ultra cards with a Nforce 680i motheboard will cost between €1700 and €2000, and you still need the rest of the machine to drive this setup.

SLI adoption is quite small, mostly because of the amount of money you need to spend for it, and people were really disappointed when they learned that the second card does not speed things up 100 percent. SLI, both dual or triple, is a cute little expensive toy for those gamers who don't have to worry about their computer gaming budgets.
