Musk outsources Twitter code

by on20 March 2023

Too difficult to work out what is going on

Supreme twit Elon [look at me] Musk has admitted that he is baffled by the algorithm used to recommend people’s tweets and decided to open source it to see if anyone else can work out what is going on.

Musk said the code will be visible to the public at the end of this month. He admitted that the algorithm is overly complex and not fully understood within the company. It might have been understood once but given Musk has fired most of his staff chances are a few of the people who he fired know all the secrets.

The new CEO of Twitter went on to say that providing the code publicly will be “incredibly embarrassing” at first but that the quality should improve as people inspect it and suggest improvements. By making the code public, Twitter is hoping that it can help to restore some trust between the company and its users.

While the tweet recommendation code is being made public, Musk revealed that the company is working on a simplified alternative for serving “more compelling tweets”.
