Xiaomi held a rather big European event in Munich, Germany, unveiling its new Xiaomi 12T series smartphones, the Xiaomi 12T Pro and the Xiaomi 12T.

Both phones share the same design, and, interestingly, come with the same 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with 2712x1220 resolution, 1200nits of brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. Both come with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Both measure at 163.1x75.9x8.6mm and there is only a slight difference in weight, 205g for the 12T Pro and 202g for the 12T. Both phones will also come in the same color options, black, silver, and blue, as well pack the same 5,000mAh battery with 120W charging option.

Xiaomi 12T Pro gets 200MP main camera and Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC

While the design, dimensions, and features might be the same on both models, the hardware is pretty different, as the Xiaomi 12T Pro comes with Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC, paired up with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

It also gets the main 200MP camera with the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor. It is a 1/1.22” sensor with 0.64µm pixels that can shoot 1.28µm (4-in-1) or 2.56µm (16-in-1) shots, depending on the lighting or user options. Surprisingly, Xiaomi ditched the telephoto sensor/lens, equipping the 12T Pro with an 8MP 1/4" sensor behind an ultrawide f/2.2 lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. The front camera is a 20MP one, behind an f/2.2 lens.

The Xiaomi 12T gets Dimensity 8100-Ultra and 108MP main camera

In order to push the 12T series into a more "affordable" price segment (starting at €599), it had to cut down some of the hardware, going for Mediatek's Dimensity 8100-Ultra with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage and main 108MP camera.

The Mediatek Dimensity 8100-Ultra is not half-bad, as it is still an octa-core SoC with four Cortex-A78 and four Cortex-A55 cores, but these are far behind the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1.

Xiaomi also went for the main 108MP camera, which is the ISOCELL HM6 sensor, a 1/1.67” sensor with 0.64µm pixels. It is fitted behind an f/1.7 lens. The rest of the sensors are the same as on the 12T Pro, and you get the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. The selfie camera is also the same with a 20MP sensor and f/2.2 lens.

The features are pretty much the same for the whole 12T series

The rest of the features are also pretty much the same, as both phones get stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos (with Harman Kardon tuning on the 12T Pro), WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, under-display optical fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C port, and Android 12 with MIUI 13 on top.

A bit on the high side with the price

Xiaomi 12T series comes with a rather high price, placing them into a rather interesting market segment, more of a low high-end, rather than mid-range. The Xiaomi 12T Pro starts at €749 for the base 8GB/128GB model, going up to €799 for the 8/256GB, and €849 for the 12GB/256GB one.

The Xiaomi 12T starts at €599 for the 8/128GB and goes up to €649 for the 8GB/256GB one.

Both will be available on October 13th and come in Black, Blue, and Silver color options.
