Asus' two new ROG Phone II versions now available in the UK

by on09 December 2019

Ultimate Edition and STRIX Edition

Asus has prepared two more versions of its ROG Phone II gaming smartphone, the Ultimate Edition and STRIX Edition.

While the Asus ROG Phone II is still one of the fastest gaming smartphones on the market since it was announced back at IFA 2019, Asus has announced two new versions that should be already available, at least in some parts of Europe, the Ultimate and STRIX Edition, packing more RAM and storage.

Most of the hardware and design Still powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855+ SoC, an octa-core CPU SoC with 2.96GHz Kryo 485 Gold core, three 2.42GHz Kryo 485 Gold, and four 1.78GHz Kryo 485 Silver CPU cores, and Adreno 640 GPU.

Asus ROG Phone II is still one of the rare phones on the market to feature a 120Hz panel, with only Razer Phone 2, and less-known Sharp Aquos R3 coming with the same screen, while most other manufacturers sticking to 90Hz panels.

The ROG Phone II comes with a 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a 2340x1080 resolution, leaving it with 391ppi of pixel density. It also has HDR10 support, 108 percent of DCI-P3 color gamut, as well as 240Hz touch-sensing, all behind Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

The phone also comes with a dual rear camera system with 48-megapixel f/1.8 26mm wide main camera with PDAF and Laser AF, and 13-megapixel f/2.4 11mm ultrawide camera. It also comes with DTS:X stereo speakers with two dedicated amplifiers, active noise canceling with dedicated mics, USB 3.1 Type-C connector, 6,000mAh battery with 30W Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 charging support, under-display optical fingerprint sensor, and more.

The new Ultimate Edition and STRIX Edition are not that different from the standard version, but you do get 8GB of RAM 128GB storage on the STRIX Edition, and 12GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 3.0 storage on the Ultimate Edition.

According to the specification list we got from Asus UK reps, there is also a difference in connectivity, as Ultimate version has 802.11ad/60GHz Wi-Fi support and supports 4G LTE with up to 2.0Gbps Cat 20 download, while STRIX Edition comes with 802.11ac WiFi and 4G LTE up to 1Gbps Cat 16 download.

So far, we were only aware of the Ultimate Edition and the standard, so-called Elite Edition, but STRIX Edition is a new one. The Ultimate Edition should also have a Matte Black design, rather than a glossy back. The STRIX could also get some minor design touchups with STRIX Gaming elements.

Currently, all three versions are listed over at ASUS' UK Store as a Christmas deal, with 8GB/128GB STRIX version available for £599.99, and the Ultimate 12GB/1TB version in stock for £899.99. The standard Elite 12GB/512GB version is currently out of stock with a price set at £829.99.
