Octa-core CPU with Kryo 475 CPU and Adreno 620 GPU

After announcing its flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC and both the Snapdragon 765 and the gaming-oriented Snapdragon 765G, Qualcomm has decided to reveal a bit more technical details about these SoCs during the second day of its annual Snapdragon technology summit in Hawaiian island Maui.

Unlike the Snapdragon 865, also referred as "the beast" by anyone who has stepped on the stage, the new Snapdragon 765 and the gaming-oriented Snapdragon 765G are meant to bring integrated 5G to non-flagship as well as gaming-oriented smartphones.

Both share the same specifications

Both the Snapdragon 765 and the Snapdragon 765G are built on Samsung's 7nm EUV manufacturing process (Snapdragon 865 is built at TSMC on 7NP manufacturing process) and will share most, if not all hardware specifications. You are looking at an octa-core CPU SoC with Kryo 475 cores, clocked at up to 2.4GHz on the SD765G and up to 2.3GHz on the SD765.

Both also feature Adreno 620 GPU, but there are no precise details on the clock, but Qualcomm notes that the Adreno 620 GPU in the Snapdragon 765G SoC will deliver 20% faster graphics rendering compared to the standard Snapdragon 765 SoC, so it is not just about the CPU performance.

Both SoCs support up to 12GB of 2x16-bit LPDDR4x memory clocked at up to 2133MHz. As far as display support is concerned, you are looking at QHD+ at 60Hz or FHD+ at 120Hz, with HDR10 and HDR10+ support.

The rest of the SoC include Hexagon 696 DSP, which, alongside the Adreno 620 GPU and the Kryo 475 CPU cores is the new Qualcomm AI Engine, alongside Qualcomm Sensing Hub with a lot of new features.

Both SoCs also include Qualcomm Specta 355 ISP (Image Signal Processor) with dual 14-bit ISPs and support for up to 192-megapixel capture, and up to 22-megapixel dual- or 36-megapixel single-camera with Zero Shutter Lag. It supports slow-motion video at 720p at 480fps, comes with brand new HEIF with HEIC photo capture, HEVC video capture, supports HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, has Multi-frame Noise Reduction (MFNR), as well as real-time object classification, segmentation and replacement.

Both SoCs also support Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ and Qualcomm Quick Charge AI and come with Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec with Qualcomm Aqstic smart speaker amplifier support as well as Hexagon Voice Assistant Accelerator.

Connectivity includes Snapdragon X52 5G modem and new FastConnect 6200 subsystem

Connectivity is what Snapdragon 765/765G and the new Snapdragon 865 are all about. While the flagship uses Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System, alongside the FastConnect 6800 Subsystem, the new Snapdragon 700 series SoCs, are using something less flagship-oriented.

The Snapdragon X52 5G Modem-RF System inside Snapdragon 765 and the Snapdragon 765G supports 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz, standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes, FDD, TDD, has dynamic spectrum sharing and supports 2x2 MIMO (400MHz) on mmWave and 4x4 MIMO (100MHz) on sub-6GHz. The download will peak at 3.7Gbps on 5G and up to 1.2Gbps on LTE, while upload will hit 1.6Gbps on 5G and 210Mbps on LTE.

It also comes with all-new Qualcomm features like 5G PowerSave, Smart Transmit technology, Wideband Envelope Tracking, Signal Boost adaptive antenna tuning, and global 5G multi-SIM.

The FastConnect 6200 subsystem is what brings WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and you'll get 802.11ax-ready dual-band WiFi with 2x2 MU-MIMO and Bluetooth 5.0.

Select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features for the Snapdragon 765G

The Snapdragon 765G will also come with select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like the Qualcomm Game Smoother, Qualcomm Game Fast Loader and Qualcomm Game Network Latency Manager. Unfortunately, Qualcomm is keeping premium Snapdragon Elite Gaming features for the Snapdragon 865 SoC and the Adreno 650 GPU, including Desktop Forward Rendering, Game Color Plus, and updatable GPU drivers. Hopefully, some of these will eventually make it to the Snapdragon 765G.

Coming to plenty of phones, most likely in early 2020

While the flagship market will focus on the Snapdragon 865 SoC, there is definitely a market for mid-range smartphones, especially as these will have 5G connectivity. The Snapdragon 765G should have plenty of power to do mobile games, especially with higher clocks on both CPU and the GPU part as well as Qualcomm's Snapdragon Elite Gaming features.

Motorola was one of the first to announce that there will be a Snapdragon 765G-equipped smartphone in early 2020, Redmi phone was rumored as well, and we are sure that Xiaomi and others will also go for Snapdragon 765/765G and not just the flagship Snapdragon 865.
