Verizon to release a Palm phone

by on29 March 2018

For the second half of the year

The dark satanic rumour mill has manufactured a hell on earth yarn that a Palm branded smartphone will be launching on Verizon in the second half of the year.

Last August, a TCL executive confirmed that the company was gearing up to launch Palm-branded smartphones in 2018. According to Android Police a device will be launched by Verizon in the second half of the year.  It will run Android, but the fact that TCL is working with Verizon is important.

The phone outfit was a longtime Palm partner, selling most of the brand's webOS handsets all the way through the Pre 2. Verizon had even wanted to run the ill-fated Pre 3, but the phone was cancelled by HP before it could be released in the US.

TCL is a Chinese firm that manufactures BlackBerry handsets, which have received a surprising amount of attention in the mainstream press, perhaps because the gear has been around long enough for people to feel a sense of nostalgia. Still I have fond memories of filing stories on a flavour of Palm PDA which had a decent keyboard via a cheap Nokia phone. I never tried one of their phones.
