KitKat still holds almost 40 percent

Google has updated statistics for Android platform showing that Android 5.x Lollipop is now installed on 21 percent of devices.

Google has updated its Android OS share statistics for September showing that Android Lollipop has reached a new milestone, a second one after it reached 10 percent back in June. Android KitKat 4.4 still holds the majority share with 39.2 percent of all devices, closely followed by Android 4.x.x Jelly Bean with over 31.8 percent.

When it comes to earlier versions of the Android OS, Android 2.2 Froyo and 2.3.x Gingerbread are somehow still holding 0.2 and 4.1 percent of the share.

The 21 percent share for Android Lollipop is a big gain from last month when it held about 18 percent.
