Sharp is living up to its name with one of the industry’s sharpest displays ever developed.

The company recently showcased an IGZO panel that offers full 4K resolution on just 4.1 inches, which translates into 736 pixels per inch.

While we’re all fools for the latest tech and any form of eye candy, Sharp’s latest display is a hard sell. Such an extremely high resolution simply does not make much of a difference on a mobile device.

The relatively small size of the screen also points to a prototype that will probably never enter production in its current form. Sharp says the first 4K mobile screens will enter mass production sometime in 2016.

Whether or not we actually need 4K screens on our mobiles doesn’t matter.
