Nokia launches $115 Lumia 530

by on23 July 2014

Moto E killer?

Nokia has launched a new Lumia and judging by the price tag, some Nokia X DNA managed to percolate into the new Lumia 530.

It is cheap. At just $115 it is about 10 percent cheaper than Motorola's Moto E, which is considered the best buy in the budget Android segment. The Lumia 530 runs Windows Phone 8.1.

Of course, you don't get to design a $115 phone without cutting a few corners. The Lumia 530 is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 processor, it has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Luckily there's a microSD slot on board.

It has a 4-inch 854x480 screen. There is no front facing camera, so selfie loving teens will have to look elsewhere. However, there's a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which is not too shabby given the price.

The budget Windows Phone 8.1 device is coming soon, but there is no exact date for the global rollout. Europe should get it next month and it should cost south of 90 euro. Brits will probably have to pay around 75 pounds.

As for the design, it's cool, minimalistic and colourful - a proper Nokia.
