Microsoft’s mobile charging tech is pants

by on20 June 2014

No we mean it… it is literally pants

The designers at Microsoft have come up with some natty phone charging technology which uses your clothing to make sure you don’t run out of juice.

Microsoft has collaborated with British fashion designer A. Sauvage, and consequently his 2014 “Modern Man” collection features a pair of chino with built-in (or sewn-in) wireless charging capabilities. Slip your phone in a special front pocket and it’ll start charging.

What Sauvage has done is hacked Nokia’s DC-50 wireless charging plate and stitched its inductive plate technology inside the trousers. The power comes from a 2400mAh battery, which can be charged via USB at home before you head out for the day.

So the upshot is that you will have to plug in your pants before you go out for the day.

The pants will cost a bomb. Sauvage claims they’ll be available for “over $340” when they go on sale within the next three months. We are not sure if they are machine washable and we doubt it.
