Motorola G is the cheapest Play Edition device ever

by on15 January 2014

At $179 for 8GB, $199 for 16GB

The Nexus 5 with a $349 price tag still offers plenty of bang for your buck, but it turns out that Google can go even cheaper. Google just released Moto G Google Play Edition starting at $179 for 8GB and $199 for 16GB version.

Here in Europe we will pay €170 Euro retail for 8GB and €199 for the 16GB but have in mind that our prices include VAT and that US price is without a sales tax that is usually 10 percent. Sales taxes in the US vary greatly and since it is up to states to decide whether to apply it or not, the 50 states have different sales taxes.

Getting a Google Play Edition Moto G has its advantages and you can count on getting the vanilla android 4.4 KitKat on it, and all future upgrades much faster than any other phone, excluding Nexus phones.

Currently only US consumers are getting this sweet deal but we can imagine that some other Google Play store countries might end up with a similar deal. Without seeing one live, we believe that this is the best phone money can buy in the sub $200-range, and all reviews we saw confirm our thoughts.
