Newegg claims Shield comes on June 30

by on24 May 2013

Last day of the quarter

It is no secret that for the last few days you can pre-order Nvidia Shield, at least if you are based in the US and Canada.

You will be limited to four units per order, but we have found out that Newegg, one of the biggest e-tailers in the US has listed the consoles release date and pinned it to June 30th.

Nvidia was always careful claiming that it will ship the console before the end of June, and we didn’t actually expect that this will literary be the last day of the June. Nvidia's CEO promised that Tegra 4 and Shield start shipping in Q2 2012, and guess what, June 30th is the last day of that quarter.

It is even more convenient that this is one month short from Nvidia's financial quarter end, so the Shield can show up in the balance sheet for the second quarter of fiscal 2014. Nvidia's end of the second quarter of fiscal 2014 is the end of July 2013, so there will be enough time to see some Tegra 4 sales kicking in, but we don’t expect to see that many.

We expect to see a few new tablets based on Tegra 4 at Computex 2013, the biggest trade show in, and that will also end the dry spell of Tegra products.

You can pre-order Nvidia Shield here, if the price is right.
