Film maker creates a flick on the iPhone

Camera creates a strange effect
A film maker from  South Korea is making an entire movie on his iPhone.

Park Chan-wook previously made Oldboy, Lady Vengeance and Thirst which you may not have seen but came second at the 2004 Cannes film festival. Park said his new fantasy-horror film Paranmanjang was shot entirely on Apple's smartphone because it creates some strange effects. It is also new and a medium which the the audience is used to already.

We are not sure what effect he means.  The films we have seen on the iPhone have been particularly grim affairs with over saturated colours.  After all there is only so much quality you can get out of a cheap Chinese lens the size of pin head. Still we are sure that in skilled hands you can get some interesting images out of it. He praised the camera in the phone saying that it is light and small and anyone can use it.

Paranmanjang, means "a life full of ups and downs" in Korean, is about a man transcending his current and former lives. He catches a woman while fishing in a river in the middle of the night. They both end up entangled in the line and he thinks she is dead. Suddenly, though, she wakes up, strangles him and he passes out. When the woman awakens him, she is wearing his clothing and he hers. She cries and calls him "Father".  You can see where this one is going. It is the sort of flick where someone ends up crucified on their kitchen floor while their girlfriend spreads the ashes of his dead mother over him.

Still using an iPhone means that the only cost him £85,500 to make. The 30 minute movie is scheduled to open in South Korean cinemas on 27 January. Park used lots of iPhones positioned at a wide variety of angles.
