Acer wants to sell 2 million handsets

maker Acer is aggressively pushing itself into the phone manufacturing market.

According to DigiTimes, Acer wants to ship 400,000-500,000 own-brand handsets in 2009 and 1.5 to 2 million units in 2010. By cooperating with Taiwan-based Telco Far EasTone Acer has also reached cooperation agreements with a number of other carriers for bundle sales, including CSL of Hong Kong, SFR and Bouygues of France, and Wind of Italy.

There are rumours of a team-up with an unnamed teleco in the US in 2010. Acer has been doing well out of PC sales but is convinced that the  the phone market will pick up next year.
